SIEGE
A miniature battlefield covered with small constructions. Half are identical silkscreened boxes that suggest the grey geometry of official architecture. Opposed to them are brightly coloured models in which elements from street-dwellers' shelters are combined with those from medieval castles and siege weapons: mattresses, plastic sheeting and washing lines blend with drawbridges, battlements and battering-rams. The might and romance of the castle merges with the marginalised fragility of the shelter. 1 & 2. Siege installation at Central Space, London, 1994. Sand area measures 2m x 13m 3. Siege (detail) 4.
