These works take as their starting-point the late 1940s: years of which I have the earliest memories and which have helped make me the person I am: I remember the street in Clapham where I lived, the games, people and small events. But, unknown to me at the time, the post-war Labour government was creating the welfare state and the Cold War was well under way. |

These works are based on specific parts of London: the street in Brixton where I have lived for many years, Trafalgar Square, Epping Forest, the River Thames, the local skateboard park. Looking afresh at these places has touched off memories of childhood and family tragedies, thoughts of history and mythology. |
